Sad News

December 12, 2013

 

Dear Parents ,

As many of you know, my husband is a pastor here in Gainesville, and we have enjoyed almost nine years of being in the Gainesville community. Recently, my husband has accepted a call to Highlands Presbyterian Church in LaFayette, Georgia. It is almost three hours from here, so we will have to move. It was with great sadness that I tendered my resignation to the School Board recently, informing them of my intent to leave Centennial and go with my husband to LaFayette. I wanted to tell you and the students about the change so that you would be aware that after Christmas , Mrs. Vanessa Wilson, a retired Gainesville Middle School teacher and former long-term substitute teacher here at CAA, will be here to take my place until a qualified candidate is hired.I am confident that Ms. Williams and the Board will hire a wonderful, qualified teacher who will love your children as much as I have, and I am sure that Mrs. Wilson, in the meantime, will also do a great job.

I have loved getting to know your sweet children, and am thankful that I have had the opportunity to teach them for these first four and a half months. Thank you for all the help and support from all of you, and I sincerely wish each of you a joyous holiday season and a wonderful New Year. Thank you so much for your kindness and understanding.

Dec.9-13

This week we are working on expressions and equations in math , and on states of matter in science. The math test will be on Thursday, but the science test will be next week. In my Lang Arts class , we are writing an essay this week.
Also, please note that we are going to the Middle School this week to attend a band concert, so please sign and return the permission slip in the take – home folder. Thanks !!!
Our Christmas party is on Wed, Dec.18th at 12:15 – 1:20. Please feel free to help by giving your child “goodies” to bring to school that morning. We need cookies, chips and dip, etc.

Dec. 2-6

Hey ! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving ….I sure did! This week we are getting back into the groove of things. In math , we are doing Order of Operations, and in science we are continuing the study of atoms and molecules. Remember that in Lang. Arts we also have a weekly POW (paragraph of the week) that is due on Friday. This week the topic is an opinion paragraph on whether cell phones should be banned in public places or not.

November 18-22

This week is the last before the Thanksgiving holiday. The 5th grade has decided to make sandwiches for the homeless, so we would love for the kids to bring ( if possible) a thing of peanut butter or jelly, or maybe some chips or apples or bread. Thank you for anything you can do to help ! 🙂

November 11-15

Thank you so much for the canned goods that your children brought in last week. The school collected at least 1500 cans ! What an awesome thing to do !

This week you will be getting your child’s progress report on Tuesday. Take a moment to look at that, and if you have any questions , please email or call me to set up an appointment.

Week 13

This week we are starting something a little different. We have moved around some of the math students in order to meet their needs better. If you get a note about this , it means that your child has been moved to another math teacher. The times are still the same , but the teacher may be new. Please know that we are doing this in order for your child to get the most attention as possible during math time. We are also shortening the science time this week in order to implement a “Math Blitz” from 1- 1:25.

Oct 21-25

Hey everyone ! Last week was weird, with two days missing. But this week is a normal, fun-filled, challenging week ….Here are a few announcements:
– For the next few weeks , the school is collecting canned goods. Please bring what you “can” 🙂

– Math test is Thursday. It’s on long division. Study HARD !!!!

– We will have a mock writing test on the 28th. We are trying to prepare students for the real thing that will take place in March.

– Next week we will be walking to the town square for a little field trip. I’ll write more about that later.

Week Nine

Week 8

This is the 8th week of school , and Fall is in the air ! Yay! This week we are starting division in math , and it would be good to go to

Week Seven

This week we will start Italian Ice again ( $2 ) and the money needs to be turned in by Wednesday.

In math we are starting topic 4 (division) on Wednesday. Please continue to work on ixl.com as often as possible . Those math facts are so important !
